Nomads Announce New Head Coach for 2017/18 Season

Nomads Korfball Club are delighted to announce the appointment of their new Head Coach, Terry Forde. Terry will be responsible for our 1st and 2nd team squad (as well as any players identified for future development) which includes Wednesday night training sessions and match days.

The last few seasons have seen Terry naturally assist previous coaches, Peter Teague and Dave Butters during the season, and at the EKL Playoffs with a great response from all those who played under him. Terry has appointed former Nomads coach Peter Teague as his Assistant Coach, bringing his additional technical expertise to our team of coaches. Peter and Terry have had a great relationship throughout their coaching and playing careers respectively, with Peter coaching Terry as a Nomads junior and during his time in the GB U16 and U19 squad.

The club will also be maintaining their existing relationship with Colin Boys who will coach club nights on Mondays. Nomads’ players of all levels have enjoyed being coached by Colin this past year with his fast-paced sessions and one-on-one coaching advice.

Terry coached Nomads juniors for many years, bringing through a number of players all the way from U9s through to the 1st team - including Alex & Ollie Bell.

Terry has also helped to develop the Southampton University Team, coaching them for five years, with eight of his players recently competing at the BSKA Nationals (where half of the team had never played before university). Southampton won the BSKA Nationals 2014/15 and 2015/16.

As a player, Terry has played for Nomads since he was nine years old, making his 1st team debut at the age of fifteen, going onto be a regular member of the squad ever since. Internationally, he has played for GB U16s and U19s, England U23s and is currently currently capped joint top in the Ireland seniors.

The club are excited to work with this illustrious trio, and the Squad are eager to get started with Terry and Peter to improve on their 5th place finish in the EKL National League last season, as well as working with club coach Colin to continue to develop younger players coming through to the highest level.

Terry has said, “I am really looking forward to stepping into the role of Head Coach for the coming season. After coming back to Nomads from a year break, it is going to be extremely exciting to be working with a young and talented squad, pushing together to put Nomads back where they belong – competing at the top of the table and looking for a spot in Europe. As a coach, I feel like I have a great track record for developing players of all abilities and am ready to put in the hard work to continue to do so.”.

The transfer window is now open. If you are looking for a new challenge for 2017/18 and want to take the season on with Nomads, get in touch.
